About the Flanders Poppy Seed Pack

This poppy variety with bright red flower petals is known as the Remembrance Day poppy. This heirloom gets its name from the wartime poem “In Flanders Fields” where the author a Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae gives tribute to the fallen ones.
Drought tolerant. Deer-resistant variety. Mildly toxic to grazing animals. Excellent for meadows as they self-seed easily without becoming weedy. Plants produce abundant tiny seeds that are very easy to gather and give as gifts.
Companion plants: Marigolds, Phlox, Cosmos, Ornamental grasses, Bearded iris, Salvia, Alliums.
Far from: Cabbage, Broccoli, Kale, Brussels sprouts, Cauliflower, Collard greens.
Planting tip: Seed stratification is required for 2 weeks. Poppies are started outdoors in early spring even when there is still a chance of frost. Transplant not recommended.
